The library will be hosting a book launch with author Latasha Ball, who has ties to Mariposa. Ball recently published "A Thousand Seas" and will be having a Q-and-A session about the book. Join us on Tuesday, November 18 at 3:30 PM for a special story hour at the Mariposa Library. Ranger Christine from Yosemite National Park will share a heartwarming tale about a young bat learning to navigate in the world. A related craft activity will follow.
Look for more special story hours with Yosemite rangers in the upcoming months. These will take place in addition to our regularly scheduled Wednesday story hour geared towards preschoolers, which takes place weekly from 10 to 11 AM. The Mariposa Library will be hosting robotics and 3D printing classes this fall. They will be held the first Saturday of the month from noon to 4 pm. All experience levels are welcome. Read to a Dog returns this winter! Red Cloud Library in Greeley Hill will be the site of our next session, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 19 at 3:30 p.m. It will be offered in 15 minute sessions. Participants must register by calling the Red Cloud Library. Space is limited. Kids in grades K-4 can read to the county courthouse dog, Ellie.
The library received a grant weeks ago from the California State Library for over $20,000. The grant will pay for technology help sessions as well as group workshops at each of our library branches. The workshops will focus on things such as how to send emails, how to use Google programs, and many other aspects of using computers. Dates, times, and locations for the workshops will be announced soon. The one-on-one help sessions can help those who are struggling with computers, tablets, and phones. The one-on-one sessions begin December 1 and can be scheduled by emailing techhelp@maripress.com or by calling the Mariposa Branch at 209-966-2140. All sessions take place in our library buildings.

The library will host Every Child Ready to Read at the El Portal Branch for the first time! It will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. Registration is required. The program teaches parents to prepare their children for reading by doing different activities in the area of talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. The third annual Holiday Read Aloud will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Mariposa Library. It is hosted by the Mariposa Friends of the Library in partnership with library staff. The event will start at 10 a.m. with stories being shared by notable community members. A tree lighting will occur at 2:30 p.m. Live music and refreshments will be available, and there will be an ornament sale to benefit the library. The library is located at 4978 10th Street.

We're starting another round of Tech Tuesday this fall/winter -- except it'll be held on Wednesdays! It will begin on November 13 at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Senior Center every Wednesday at the same time, for six weeks. This is free to attend. Materials and equipment are provided. This class is aimed at helping those who need basic computer or phone help. Many seniors in the community have already benefited over the last year from taking part in this program. Space is limited. This program is supported in whole by funding provided by the State of California, administered by the California State Library.
